US Air Base Attacked by Viet Cong
In November 1964 Bien Hoa Air Base, used by the Republic of Vietnam Air Force and United States Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine units, was attacked with mortars by Viet Cong. Four U.S. and two Vietnamese servicemen were killed. Thirty aircraft were destroyed. Source: Wikipedia
Political Upheaval in South Vietnam
The November 1963 assassination of President Ngo Dinh Diem in a military coup (with the tacit approval of the US) produced a period of political instability for the Saigon government. General Dương Văn Minh became president, but was removed in January 1964 by General Nguyễn Khánh. General Kanh was subsequently ousted and exiled from South Vietnam in 1965. Source:
USAF T-39 shot down by a MiG-19

Panama Canal Crisis
