American Bandstand premiered locally in late March 1952 as Bandstand on Philadelphia television station WFIL-TV as a television adjunct to a radio show of the same name on WFIL radio,.
In August 1957, the show was picked up nationally by ABC, becoming American Bandstand .

I didn’t like Bandstand except for the time a bunch of classmates drove to appear on the show. The only guy I remember seeing was Steve Harrison whose moves were less than impressive. Neilsen got yanked of the set by production assistants.
