In contrast to Japan, although entering the Great War late, the USA suffered many casualties. The official U.S. Dept. of Defense figure for WWI military deaths is 116,516. This includes 53,402 battle deaths and 63,114 non-combat deaths. The US Coast Guard reported an additional 192 dead.
