The Book of Five Rings (五輪書) is a martial arts text written in ~1645 by the master swordsman Miyamoto Musashi – Buddhist name Niten Dōraku.
Speaking to an audience wider than martial arts enthusiasts, the book addresses deeper philosophical issues.
“Think lightly of yourself and deeply of the world”
“There is more than one path to the top of the mountain”
“Get beyond love and grief: exist for the good of Man.”
“Everything is within. Everything exists. Seek nothing outside of yourself.”
“The ultimate aim of martial arts is not having to use them”
